I’d stop going there just because of the abomination that is their new commercial where they bastardize the Beatles song “Hello, Goodbye” using a whistful Sixpence None the Richer-like arrangement. I can forgive them for commercializing the Beatles. Nike did it with Revolution and others have done it as well. It sucks, but it isn’t tragic.
What is a traveshamockery is the fact that they kept displaying “GoodBUY” in place of “Goodbye” in the lyric.
I’m sure that when the Beatles wrote the song, the first thing they considered was how it could sell crap like bleach sticks and tablecloths.
Sigh.
Hmm then I guess I shouldn’t mention that I’m wondering if anybody knows who is doing this cover?
I couldn’t care less about the commercial aspect of how the song is used, it’s just that imho this is my favorite Beatles song and I’m glad to hear somebody cover it.
I actually thought that it was a good song as well.
When I saw that commercial, I thought to myself…”Katya, you’ll be reading about this later on Jeff’s blog.” True.
:o)
All I could think of was how much it must have cost to make the commercial with so many people in it, plus the Beatles music, plus airing it at the end of the Golden Globes - a prime ad spot, I would think. (I’ve only seen it one time.)
I will confess that “GoodBUY” amused me, although it made Mike groan a bit. I also thought that I’m sure that was never what the Beatles had in mind. But it sure was one catchy cover of it!
So does anyone know who covered the song? I guess it is better for some people to cover good old songs than make new crap songs
Can you say pun-tastic. I’m sure they paid too much.
The Target shareholders love this kinda stuff. I barfed up red after this spot.
