…than Christmastime commercials?
Oh, GOD, they are awful. Look at the pretty white couple exchanging Lexus SUV’s this holiday season while the winter snow falls gently on their well-manicured lawn. Sigh.
Or, how about the guy giving his wife the pendant from Zales or the family whispering about how “he went to Jared!” Seriously? No offense to mall jewelers, but every guy SHOULD know that it is a little blue box from Tiffany that every woman wants to see. It’s why Tiffany doesn’t even have to advertise.
Where are the days of the little Santa Claus inside the Norelco shaver sledding down the snow covered hill into the little town? Now, THERE is a classic Christmas gift - a shaver. How did we go from ties and robes and video games to flat screen TV’s and diamond jewelry and freaking luxury automobiles? Does any normal person REALLY give a Hummer for Christmas? Not that kind of Hummer, perv.
Here’s one from my youth. Sure, it’s advertising colored, caffeinated sugar water, but it brings back memories of getting a 2-liter bottle of Coke for Christmas from my great aunt. What? My family bought a lot of their Christmas gifts at the grocery store. Hey, it’s practical!
That’s a classic commercial. The ones I hate the most right now are for Kay. Guys are not that cheesy in real life and if they are I probably wouldn’t be hanging around them much. However I’m sure something much more annoying will be coming along soon enough.
Even worse than the outrageously expensive toys feature in the commercials is the craziness of starting Christmas advertising at all levels in late August and early September!! Is there nothing sacred anymore??
Don’t peak early on the commercials. We still have over a month to go!
