Cosmos Cafe Bites the Dust

Yet another Houston live music venue goes down the drain.
I haven’t been to Cosmos in awhile, but I’ll miss the warm atmosphere, the amazing burgers and, of course, the local-music love. It was largely thanks to current owner and former Notre Dame fullback Pete Pallas.
“I’m tired,” Pallas said in a statement. “I’m tired of working 80-plus hours a week. I’m tired of the Houston people not supporting live music. I’m tired of fighting our governmental agencies.
“Lastly, I’m tired of policing the new smoking ban, both to the patrons and employees.”
The smoking ban complaint is a little weak, but I feel for the guy. It’s a tough road to hoe to keep any club afloat, but particularly in Houston. It’s not like every time one closes its doors, another opens. And while Cosmos isn’t Rockefellar’s or Satellite Lounge or Rhythm Room or Mary Jane’s or the Ale House or Cardi’s or Blythe Spirits (should I continue?), it was another option to hear live music and another place for musicians to play.
That’s a shame.

Man, I’m sad to see this. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, but they used to have a nice little menu. I figured with the boom in construction in that area that the place would be doing well. Dang…
