Last night, my band did a show with Pale and People Noise, both very good bands with good guys in them. The show was good and we rocked the haus, bitches.

HOWEVER, the night was nearly ruined before it got started. Our drummer, Steve, as usual was there early. He loaded his drums into the back stairwell and shut the door before going upstairs and then running to the store. I got there shortly thereafter (around 9pm) and went upstairs briefly to get Chris (guitarist) to help me load in both his gear and mine.

I left the door open for NO MORE than 30 seconds to do this. Steve then came down and began loading his gear in as well.

A few minutes later Steve was frantically looking for his 8″ rack tom that was in a gig bag. It was missing. It wasn’t in the club or the stairwell and it wasn’t in his van. Someone had stolen it!

I took a drive around the block looking for some douchebag with a drum. Poor Steve. Since he joined the band, he’s gotten three tickets (two parking, one speeding) at gigs or rehearsal, had his entire drum kit stolen out of his van (not after one of our gigs, but still) and had his van spray painted during rehearsal. Jesus. Happy Easter!

Fortunately, Chris looked through the redwood fence that blocks off the small alley space behind the building and his drum in its case was lying back there. They retrieved it and all was well…sort of. What kind of a moron steals A drum?

After the show, Chris and I were loading out gear while his wife waited in their truck. Obviously, we didn’t want to leave anything unattended. On our last trip, there was this weird guy standing outside the back door. We just ignored him, loaded up and drove off. Chris’ wife told us that he had been looking behind the fence before we got down there. He was probably the jackass that tried to steal Steve’s drum thinking he’d come back for it later. Nice.

So, musicians BEWARE. Don’t leave ANYTHING unattended when you are loading in at Rudyard’s.

I guess it’s not the “crime-free Montrose” like Lanny Griffith always said on Stevens and Pruett. I think douchebag is a good term for anyone who steals someone else’s stuff.

Cardi’s has the same problem around the back with dark street around back that hits the 59 feeder.

Steve needs to give up playing drums and start playing the tuba. Nobody wants to steal a tuba…

    “crime-free Montrose”

REALLY?!?!?! Montrose?!?!?! Crime-free?!?! Now they’ve got to be kidding. There’s no way Montrose could be crime free. I’ve committed crimes there myself…KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally and completely KIDDING. Except for the time…NO for real - KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, glad he recovered his drum. :-( :-( :-( It’s so sad people have to be so…disappointing sometimes.

Maybe they thought he was a caterer… and his tom bag was a tasty cake wrapped up for protection. Then, they took it behind the fence to munch on it, but were sorely disappointed :)
