My new favorite bumper sticker: “YEEHAW!” Is Not a Foreign Policy
My new favorite joke: He’s so UGLY, when he lays on the beach, cats try to bury him.
In a Lifetime movie that includes a characterization of me, I will apparently be played by Ian Ziering.
Daylight Savings Time SUCKS and it makes everyone drive like morons.

I know, I know, I’ve been MIA. After scattering my dad’s ashes in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, my heart hasn’t really been in posting witty repartee. I get about one good line a day and that’s it.
I’d post it here, but then I’d have nothing funny left to say today and […]

There is a great Ben Folds song with the same name as the title of this post. It’s about the ex of the singer (I don’t like to assume it is Ben because stories are sometimes just stories and not necessarily formed from personal experience) who was clearly very depressed and was always propped […]

Below is the eulogy I wrote and delivered at my dad’s memorial service earlier today. It was a great turnout of friends and family. The punctuation and other elements may be a little odd because I did some things to help me remember when to pause, etc.

I don’t like to usually get all heavy and weird on this blog, but today was a tough day for me and it’s all the phone’s fault.
Anytime Joyce (my step mother) calls from her house, the caller ID on my home phone says “George Balke” and my cell phone says “Dad.” I found myself […]

My father passed away at 12:30pm today in St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his family. It was very peaceful.
I cannot express to you how much gratitude I feel for all the kind words I have received in person, on the phone, via text messages, comments, Twitters and emails. I have the greatest friends […]

I’m freaking tired! That’s the simplest way to put it. Why you ask? (I imagine you said “Do tell” in a British butler accent). Well, let me tell you…
Friday
Friday night was going to be movie night with Katya, but it was changed to game night with Katya, Rebecca and Stephen. […]

In this case, substitute “photographer” for “accountant” and you’re in the ballpark. I couldn’t change Rodeny Dangerfield’s line just wantonly.
Since Thursday, I’ve done virtually nothing but take photos with the brief distraction of seeing a movie.
Thursday night, after a fun excursion to the Houstonist 2-year birthday party, I met up with Katya as she […]
