Last night, my band did a show with Pale and People Noise, both very good bands with good guys in them. The show was good and we rocked the haus, bitches.
HOWEVER, the night was nearly ruined before it got started. Our drummer, Steve, as usual was there early. He loaded his drums […]

Well-respected Houston bassist Chris King was in a serious auto accident on Friday and is currently at Hermann Hospital in critical condition. A mutual friend emailed me today to let me know.
Chris is a fantastic bass player who has worked with many fine local musicians including Carolyn Wonderland. He also happens to be […]

Cosmos Cafe Bites the Dust

Yet another Houston live music venue goes down the drain.
I haven’t been to Cosmos in awhile, but I’ll miss the warm atmosphere, the amazing burgers and, of course, the local-music love. It was largely thanks to current owner and former Notre Dame fullback Pete Pallas.
“I’m tired,” Pallas said in a statement. “I’m tired of working […]

I had known for a couple weeks that the 20th Anniversary of the birth of The Axiom was coming up at Fitzgerald’s and I waffled on whether or not I would go. I was never someone who hung out there. I spent more of my time at hard rock clubs during the heyday […]

Sweet review from Envy’s Adam P. Newton in their September 2007 issue.
On Come and Take It, it’s evident that the band has spent a lot of time together crafting music that’s important to them – music without posturing or pretense. From opening track “Sticky Finger” to the closer, a quintessential rock anthem about a […]

Alana Seifi is no Alan Freed. But when the history of online radio in San Diego is written, her part in it may one day […]

I ran across this nifty little tool for tracking concerts in the area today called Gruvr. It tracks shows based on MySpace show listings (and likely a few other resources) and allows you to track your favorite bands and even add a widget to your blog or website.
Pretty cool.

Don’t forget to keep track of […]

ACL, yes. Houston, no?

A commentor on a recent HandStamp post openly wondered why so many bands that attend the Austin City Limits Music Festival (coming up in a couple weeks) don’t bother to play in Houston despite being close to H-Town. This wouldn’t be the first time Houston was skipped in tour dates.
I’ve always wondered if it […]

I’ve been working as a musician in Houston for over 20 years. It not only makes me an old fogie of the music community, but a veteran of the difficulties that come with navigating the local music scene.
Saturday night, orange is in did a show at a new place on the north side called […]

My band, orange is in, will be playing at Full Throttle Coffee out in Spring this Saturday with our good friend, Lee Alexander. It’s an early show from 9-11, but should be fun.
The venue was introduced to us by our friend David Cobb at Houston Calling. Speaking of Houston Calling, they have a […]
