As I was reading Sterogum today, I came across the video below and, more surprisingly, text from a “Bonnablog” written by John Roderick of the Long Winters, another “the” band I really like, regarding Hold Steady’s performance at Bonnaroo, which has been universally praised across the interweb.

Apparently, Roderick thought that the Hold Steady, […]

We all know about Fall Out Boy’s penchant for hoodies and eyeliner.
Early acts Cobra Starship and The Academy Is … could have been refugees from a Calvin Klein fashion show, complete with skinny jeans and even skinnier, androgynous lead singers.
Even Paul Wall showcased style via tattoos and his trademark teeth jewelry.
Oh yeah, the music. There […]

Creating a whole new paradigm and thinking outside the box are the kinds of corporate phrases that make me shudder to the depth of my being…then vomit. Today, I encountered another such phrase when reading about Kelly Clarkson shelving her upcoming tour due to low ticket sales.
“It is mind blowing when you stop to […]

I do NOT get the ridiculous weirdness over Volkswagon’s use of a couple of Wilco songs in their commercials. Fans are going berzerk. WTF?
Get the freak over it! Wilco is one of the more respectable bands out there, a band that has played by its own rules virtually since the beginning and […]

I was having a conversation with a friend about a week back and we were talking about how attractive women are caught in a bit of a catch 22 when it comes to being performers. If you want to be a singer, songwriter or musician and you are an attractive woman, you automatically will […]

In the world of big budget music and motion pictures, money is what it is all about. Creativity, art or any other semblence of merit is sucked from the life of any production for the benefit of economics. Case in point the “contest” for the upcoming movie, Bratz.
The contest allows you as an […]

The RIAA, big broadcast radio and other similar types of organizations are not progressive in their goals and strategy. They are not working to increase themselves through broadening their art or expanding their listener base. They are organizations determined to hold onto the status quo. Their only concern is in widening the […]

I read a lot of music blogs. I keep up with the local music scene. I pay attention because I love music. But, I’ve discovered something recently: I’m just not cool.
When I was in high school, I like un-cool music. When I was in my 20’s, same thing. I’m […]

I love Stereogum. Let me just say that up front. It’s one of my favorite music blogs. However, like a lot of indie blogs, they tend to be a tad on the elitist side when it comes to music. A lot of indie music blogs overemphasize the popularity of bands that […]
